The main purpose of this paper is to explore the political issues of civilian leaders(demogogos)and mobs in Fifth-Fourth Centuries BCE Athens. On the basis of studying the original historical materials and the 'predecessors'researches, this paper systematically expounds the background and main representatives of the civil leaders and radical democracy in Athens in the early Fifth century BC,and combs its development process and historical influence comprehensively.Secondly, this paper aims to understand the great influence of the evolution of radical democracy in Athenian politics and to provide a reference for enriching the academic understanding of Athenian democracy from two new perspectives:the interactions between the citizens and demagogues of Athens in the Classical period and the role in the determination of diplomatic policies played among city-states during the Peloponnesian War.The main conclusions of this thesis are:The Athenian mob politics in the classical era was a phenomenon in the early stage of the world identity with the spread of Greek culture, with which the Greek national identity gradually exacerbated. For the sake of interests pursuing, the national identity in the past gradually altered into somehow city-state identity. After the Peloponnesian War,how to seek a new identity model to regroup the Greek states has become an urgent problem. And the resolution of this deadlock, finally, was in the form of a unified multi-ethnic empire, the Roman Empire.
