As one of the Meta keywords of Chinese culture,"Yue" has always played as a significance role in the fields of Chinese literature,philosophy,arts,education,politics,as well as aesthetic.Moreover,"Yue Jiao" has also developed as a kind of key spirit during a long period of time in Chinese history,because of its positive functions of adjusting sentiments,changing customs,as well as its characteristic of gentle and soft.However,“Yue”and "Yue Jiao"all covered the dimensions of substance,aesthetic,knowledge and spirit,promoting the relation between gods,human and nature.Therefore,in the past periods,all persons,no matter what class,had a high regard for“Yue”.However today,in the culture context and discursive,the meaning of "Yue" is using as the English word,"Music".In this way,"Yue Jiao”has also been conventionally understood as "music education"There is no denying that misinterpretation of "Yue" has veiled its spirituality,superiority and aesthetics.Moreover,the inheritance way,aesthetic perception and artistic characteristics of Chinese music has also changed.In the fields of academic,scholars who majored in music literature and document tend to make serious mistakes only because of the misunderstand of "Yue",which always cause a big loss to their academic fields.Thus,in this thesis,by using the method of keyword research,beginning with the interpretation of the meaning of "Yu",tracing the semantic change of this keyword,and also try to clarify the meaning of "Yin Yue" "Yin Sheng" "Sheng Yue" as well,to connect the evolution of the spirit of "Yue Jiao".In the process of data collection and analysis,by using "triple evidence law",try to have a deep-seated and unified conception of archaeological materials,ancient writing materials,oral materials besides the traditional document.Furthermore,this thesis also combined annotation and textual research with western new methods and angles of view,such as cultural anthropology,historical philosophy,mythology analysis,folklore and culture memory.In this way,we are not only re-examining the thinking venation behind the keyword,but also recalling and reflecting on the traditional Chinese and Chinese music tradition.Chapter one dated "Yue" from the pre-written era,compared the unearthed cultural relics with the cultural memory of ancient music in the records,to explore the influence of the spirit of music education in the great tradition of "?" before the emergence of“(?)”,and the ideas of later generations thinking tradition,cultural beliefs and so on.The second chapter examines the formal musical tradition formed by the western zhou dynasty,as well as the successive dynasties of the later generations.“(?)”,the use of the word for its image and the use of the case indicates that it formally has musical ritualistic meaning in the western zhou dynasty,at the same time,it reflected the continuous development of rites and music,and established the music teaching spirit of“Hou ren lun,Mei jiao hua and Yi feng su”in Chinese tradition.The third chapter focuses on the tradition of"Sheng Yin Zhi Dao",which is another tradition of "Yue",assigned by the relationship of rites and music.In the warring states period,"Yue" wrote as"(?)",the shape of its bottom symbolized metal,which implied the era of the situation,marked "Yue" has developed the aesthetic entertainment functions besides the aspect of political indoctrination.But all of the scholars in previous dynasties tried their best to set up the "Sheng Yin Zhi Dao",to admit aesthetic function of music at the same time while keeping the music education in the traditional ethics order.The fourth chapter focuses on the process of the acceptance and transmission buddhist music to Chinese music culture,and explores the influence of the concept of“Sheng Jiao”on Chinese native music."Sheng Jiao" in buddhist music seems similar with Chinese "Yue Jiao" in the fronts of rates and enlightenment,but the attitude towards secular music is more relaxed and inclusive.In this regard,"Sheng Jiao" unconsciously changed the social custom and people' s aesthetic habits.The fifth chapter investigates the sudden change and fracture of the meaning of "Yue"In the era of losing self-confidence of national culture,along with several 'Yue Ge" and "New Chinese songs" campaign,the meaning of"Yue" has been replaced by the Japanese word "??",which means"music”,a western concept.At the same time,Huaxia' s own music system has be viewed as the old culture dross which should be arbitrarily rejected.At first,Western music has been introduced into China relying on the traditional view of "Yue Jiao",people of vision resorted aesthetic education to music in order to rectify and improve the national quality.However,their efforts of this period also completely separated the Chinese music nationality from new and old.As a result of that,"Yue" has become a thing of the past in the view of cultural memory.It can be found that,as a meta keyword,"Yue" was constantly changing and enriching for thousands of years,but the basic function of transforming custom and promoting society has never changed.Although "Yue" has already been translated as "music" in modern time,today' s people could only remember the form of it.This kind of fracture and forgetting is still creating a lot of resistance in the inheritance and development of national music,as well as the academic research in such fields.This thesis reviews the historical evolution of the meaning of"Yue" and the development of the spirit of "Yue Jiao" from the ancient to the republic of China,which draw the outline of a long history period.It also views the different cultural groups of different classes and faiths from the perspective of vertical and horizontal.By combining traditional Chinese literature test method with cultural anthropology and embryology,using the cultural memory to study "Yue" accurately.Meanwhile,reinterpreting“Yue Jiao”tradition by culture memory,embodies the advanced methodology value and massive ideological implication.Furthermore,it also points out the fault and fracture between modern culture and traditional music,which contributes to discussion and reflection of modern researchers in their fields of study.
