Vocabulary is one of the most important elements in language learning.And English vocabulary teaching is an indispensable part of improving students' English level.For the English learners,efficient English vocabulary teaching not only provides guidance and help for them to master English vocabulary,but also benefits them with learning strategies,thus lays a firm foundation for lifelong learning.However,in actual high school English vocabulary teaching,the traditional vocabulary teaching leads to unsatisfactory teaching and learning effects.For years,many researches have been done to find suitable ways to teach English vocabulary.Among them,vocabulary teaching relying on modern network technology has brought an inspiration to English vocabulary teaching.MOOC,a typical online course,subverts the form of traditional classroom.In post-MOOC era,Small Private Online Course emerges,providing a new way of language teaching.SPOC combines MOOC teaching model with classroom teaching,which not only enriches teaching models,but also greatly improves teaching quality and students' interest.Therefore,it can be applied to high school English vocabulary teaching.In order to explore the application effect of SPOC model in high school English vocabulary teaching,an empirical research is done based on constructivism theory,learning pyramid theory and mastery learning theory.Two classes from grade two of a high school in Panjin are chosen.Tests,questionnaires and interviews are used to collect data to explore three research questions:(1)What effect does the SPOC model have on students' vocabulary learning?(2)What is the effect of the SPOC model on students' vocabulary learning strategies?(3)What is the effect of the SPOC model on students' interest and attitudes to vocabulary learning? Data are analyzed by SPSS 20.0.As results show that self-learning online and various teaching activities in SPOC model create helpful situations where a combination of input and output strengthens students' understanding and mastery of vocabulary,enriches students' memory strategies of vocabulary,and then broadens their vocabulary.Accordingly,language skills of students get greatly developed.At the same time,the relaxing and interesting atmosphere in SPOC teaching model catches students' more attention and decreases students' learning stress.Therefore,students' interest and attitudes get visibly improved.We hope to provide some inspirations for future English vocabulary teaching.
