Natsume Soseki's Deep Thinking On The Modern Education Of Japan In Botchan

Natsume Soseki was a great literary giant and a great national writer in Japan.He was not only a great critic realism writer in the Meiji period,but also a pioneer scholar in modern Japanese culture enlightenment.Natsume Soseki had all the talents in the understanding of literature,the controlling of language and the deeply insight of modern Japanese society.Natsume Soseki was also one of the representatives of the Japanese intellectual elite who had learned abroad early.When he studied abroad,sponsored by the government in the early stage of Meiji Reform in Japan,he had accepted the advanced western ideas,scientific knowledge,teaching methods,management models and capitalist civilization.Therefore,Natsume Soseki had an advanced foresight of Japan and Meiji period at that time.Natsume Soseki had many literary works in his short life.Botchan was one of the most thoughtful representative works.This paper is analysing Natsume Soseki's deep thinking of Modern Japanese education,and criticizing the corruption education in Meiji period of Japan through the Botchan.Natsume Soseki criticized the darkness and decay of education in Meiji period of Japan through Botchan,which aimed at arousing people's attention and reflection.Through analysing the corruption of education in Botchan,we can see there was still a serious problems in modern Japanese Society.The corruption of education is the most important factor,which impeded social progress.The first chapter contains the methods,significance and research status at home and abroad.The second chapter mainly introduces the literature creation of Natsume Soseki and the creative background of Botchan.The third chapter discusses the modern education background and the modern Japanese social background of Botchan.Japan changed his backwardness by learning modern western civilization through the Meiji Restoration.We can see from the Botchan that Japanese society has emerged a lot of westernization in many fields.The fourth chapter analyzes modern Japanese educational system and the surrounding characters.It depicts the educational circles in the Meiji period of Japan,especially focus on the educational bureaucracy,the knight errant and the non-action teachers.The last chapter introduces the importance of modern education in Japan for the realization of modernization.On the other side,it also reveals that the drawbacks cannot be ignored.Japanese modern education system contains feudalism and barbarism,it promotes the development of militarism.In particular,it provides the ideological basis for the war of aggression in Japan.All in all,Natsume Soseki expresses his dissatisfaction and reflection to the Meiji period of education by Botchan.Nowadays,it still has a practical significance to read and study Botchan again.
