This report is based on the simulated English-Chinese consecutive interpretation of Elon Musk's Speech at 68 th International Astronautical Congress on September 29,2017.The simulated interpreting practice provides the interpreter a great opportunity to test her ability to deal with such a highly technical interpretation task.There are five chapters in this report.The first chapter is task description,which introduces the background and the features of the speech.The second chapter deals with process description,which includes pre-interpreting preparation,during-interpreting and post-interpreting review.The third chapter introduces the theoretical framework of Gile's Effort Model,and the applicability and practicality of the theory in this task.The fourth chapter,case analysis,guided by Gile's Effort Model,analyzes basic cognitive loads of listening and analysis,memory,note-taking and production,describes different problem triggers that appear in interpreting process,and introduces relevant interpreting strategies.The last chapter is conclusion which summarizes the gains and losses the author has derived from this practice.
