As a basic part of English teaching in senior high school,English homework is an extension of classroom teaching and an effective way to cultivate students' comprehensive ability of English.It is closely related to the success of English teaching and students' learning effects.In the past two decades,experts from home and abroad have done an amount of researches on homework,among of it focused on the fields of mathematics and natural sciences,only a small part of research on foreign language teaching,especially English in senior high school.At present,China is fully implementing the policy of quality education and new curriculum reforms,but the progress of English homework reforms in senior high school has lagged behind classroom reforms.Therefore,it is of great significance to make a survey on the current situation and practice of English homework in senior high school.In this thesis,questionnaires and interviews are adopted,all the samples data come from students and teachers from 1st and 2nd grades of the three provincial key senior high schools,which are randomly selected from seven provincial key senior high schools,and 416 valid questionnaires and 45 valid questionnaires are obtained.All data are analyzed in detail by SPSS 19.0(Statistical Package for the Social Science19.0),two questions are proposed: First,what kinds of problems have existed in English homework in senior high school through investigation? Second,what are the teachers' strategies to cope with the existing problems?Questionnaires of teachers and students include four dimensions: the time of English homework in senior high school,the cognition of English homework(attitude,difficulty,type,function),the assignment and design of English homework and the correction and feedback of English homework,all of which basically cover the whole process of English homework.Through the analysis of these four dimensions and the correlation between students' dimensions and students' achievement,combined with teacher-student interviews and students' homework samples,the following problems are found: students are relatively burdened with a large amount of English homework;the assignment and design of the homework are monotonous and dull,students' individuality is ignored;the mode of homework assessment is so monotonous that the subjectivity of students is neglected.Based on the existing problems,the followingstrategies are proposed for English teachers,that is,the quality instead of quantity should be focused due to a large amount of homework,turning a mechanical homework into a funny experience;the English learning resources should be fully utilized and assigned properly to construct an "English homework supermarket" from the aspect of assignment and design;the diversified evaluation approaches should be used to highlight student subjectivity and to improve teacher-student communication from the aspect of correction and feedback.
