The Construction And Operation Of The Tongpu Railway During The Republic Of China

Tongpu railway is the first self-built railway trunk line running from north to south in Shanxi Province.The construction of the Tongpu Railway was a series of twists and turns:Since the Qing government's approval in 1905,the construction has been slow.During the period of the Republic of China,Yuan Shikai and Yan Xishan successively proposed construction plans until the formal start of construction in May 1933.In 4 years and 3 months,the company spent more than 1600 million yuan and built a 1,000-kilometer dry extension line.The Tongpu Railway was eventually built into a state of affairs.It was due to the painstaking efforts of Yan Xishan.From the struggle for the right to build roads,to the selection of survey routes,the selection of wide and narrow tracks,the arrangement of personnel,and the preparations for the preparation of railways,there were specific links such as Yan Xishan.During the preparatory operations of railways,they were often affected by wars.They were once put on hold because of the war in the Central Plains.They operated differently during the Anti-Japanese War,the Liberation War and other periods,and they were coherent and different in management.The war still affects the function of the economic function of the railway.This paper intends to focus on the preparation of the Tongpu Railway to dig deeper the historical materials behind the Tongpu Railway and briefly analyze the characteristics of the Tongpu Railway in order to reflect the different aspects of Yan Xishan's governance of Shanxi society in the Republic of China.Combining the history of transportation with the history of politics,he spoke about the understanding of Yan Xishan about the relationship between the National Government and Shanxi Province at that time,and the relationship between the state and local society,and a brief analysis of the struggle between all parties involved in the current situation.
