| Translation is a linking bridge in cultural communication,which can be generally defined as the action of interpreting the meaning of a source-language text and producing an equivalent target-language text.With the enrichment and deepening of translation practice,literary translation is playing an important role in China’s social and cultural development.Fiction translation dominates literary translation,since fiction is preferred by a wide range of readers.According to a statement issued by the Japanese scholar,Tarumoto Teruo(1948-),the introduction of foreign fiction brought a peak of Chinese fiction creation in 1915.In contemporary days,foreign fiction such as Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings went viral in China since publication.Therefore,it is believed that the translation of excellent foreign fiction is of great significance for the farther research of Chinese fiction.This translation report selects the first three chapters of The North Water as the text material.It is a suspense novel written by the famous American writer Ian McGuire.In this report,examples were given to discuss the difficulties encountered in the translation process and their relative solutions.By doing this,it is hoped that a better understanding of applying communicative theory to the E-C fiction translation could be gained.There are five chapters in this report.Chapter one is a brief introduction of the task,which consists of the background study,task requirement and significance of the research.Chapter two discusses the task process,including the pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation.Chapter three is the theoretical support,which aims to talk about the communicative translation theory and its application to English fiction translation.Chapter four is the examples,which introduce methods and strategies used in the process of translation on both vocabulary and sentence level.Chapter five is a summary of this report. |
