Syntactic Research On Particle Suo In Chinese Relativization

This thesis centers on character suo in Chinese relativization.It builds upon the former researchers' findings and tries to put forward the study with advanced syntactic theories.The author believes that suo is a clitic,which heads an optional category(ClP)in the syntactic structure.Suo is seated between the subject and the negative word.It is used together with de to emphasize the constituents between them and also supply an index to extract the center word after de.This thesis focuses on the description and categorization of various language materials.The difficulties lie in the analysis on suo's syntactic position and properties.The author has compared Chinese relativization with that of other languages.Therefore,this research will not only enrich Chinese syntax study,but also reflect the essence of Universal Grammar.
