Gender stereotypes are regular opinions or beliefs of people on the appearance,behavior,trait,occupation,etc.of different genders in a specific group or social system.It has an important influence on people's thinking and behavior.In the past,the research on gender stereotypes in China focused on the content of gender stereotypes.Subjects mainly focused on young children and college students.There were few studies on gender stereotypes of primary and middle school students.This study examines gender differences and age trends at different ages from the perspective of gender-specific preferences and gender counter-stereotype assessment.Combining the research results of study land study2,targeted stereotyped group counseling design was conducted to guide young people to look at individuals from the perspective of respecting and appreciation of the uniqueness of individual genders,thereby improving the mental health of middle school students.This study is divided into three steps:First,through open-ended questionnaires,the gender characteristics of primary school students,junior high school students,high school students,and undergraduates were collected to examine gender-specific preferences(favorite and annoying)and gender differences at four ages.Secondly,using the characteristics of masculinization and femininization obtained in the first study,an questionnaire of gender counter-stereotype assessment was developed to examine the changing trends of students of gender counter-stereotype in different age groups(primary,junior high,high school,and university).Third,according to the study land study2,the group counseling design guided by gender stereotypes for middle school students was conducted.Through research,we found:(1)In the four age groups,male and female students have certain similarities in their preference of gender characteristics(2)From the perspectives of warmth and competence,there are gender differences between the characteristics of the male student and the female student who are liked.The subject's preference for the male student's characteristics is competence,a for the male student's characteristics is warmth,and these are showed obvious in four ages.(3)The gender characteristics favored by boys and girls are similar to those of traditional gender stereotypes;(4)Gender characteristics Age,trends of appearance,behavior,and traits described:from primary school students,junior high school students,high school students,and college students,male and female students' preference descriptions of gender characteristics gradually decrease in appearance and behavior,and the trait dimensions gradually increase.(5)Compared with boys,junior high school students,high school students,and college students are more likely to accept and like girls and are more willing to socialize with girls.There is no gender difference in the scores of students,likes,and friends' wishes.The scores of girls on the degree of nuisance are higher than those of boys.(6)Junior high school students,senior high school students,and college students scored significantly more than the stereotypical inconsistency in the acceptance of stereotypes,the degree of likes,and the intent to make friends,while the scores of nuisances were opposite;the pupils' acceptance,likes,and friends' wishes score did not exist.Stereotype and counter-stereotype difference.(7)Compared with male students who are gender counter-stereotype,students are more likely to accept girls with gender counter-stereotype,and also prefer female students with gender counter-stereotype.(8)Regardless of gender stereotyped objects or gender counter-stereotype objects,pupils'acceptance scores were significantly lower than those of junior high school students,high school students,and college students,while junior high school students,high school students,and college students were consistent in gender stereotyping between the three age stages.There is no significant difference in the degree of inconsistency with stereotypes.(9)Primary school students' acceptance of boys and girls are significantly lower than junior high school students,high school students,college students' acceptance of boys and girls.There is no significant difference in others'age stage.
