This translation practice report selects the first four chapters of the United Nations World Water Development Report(WWDR)2017 as the translation material.Based on the Functional Equivalence Theory of Eugene Nida,the author makes deep exploration of the translation strategies for long sentences in the paper.At present,water resources shortage problem has increasingly became serious in China and even the whole world,and it is urgent for us to cope with the water crisis by realizing the resource utilization of sewage and improving the reuse of water.The United Nations World Water Development Report 2017 has focused on the utilization efficiency of water resources,and has mainly analyzed various current developments in the reuse of the wastewater.The report(WWDR)allows people to have a deeper understanding of the current domestic and international water resources situation and is of important learning and educational significance.The UN World Water Development Report 2017 contains a large number of long sentence structures.The complicated structure of long sentences brings great challenges to the translation.In this translation report,the translator selects lots of long sentence cases,and applies the four translation strategies of literal translation,splitting translation,sentence component shift and structural recombination to explore how to translate those long sentence structures and achieve the “faithfulness” of the content and the “naturalness” of the expression.That will provide important implications for the translation practice and theory of long sentences in the future.This translation practice report consists of four parts: the first part describes the task of translation;the second part explains the related work in the early,middle andlater period of the translation;the third part analyzes the translation difficulties in the selected material and corresponding solution strategies.The fourth part summarizes the translation task,including translation experiences and future prospects.
