Report On The Whispering Interpretation Project Of 2017 Overseas Study Meetings Of Jiangsu Province International Exchange Center

With the rapid development of China's economy,an increasing number of small and medium-sized enterprises are seeking and having more opportunities to communicate and cooperate with foreign companies,which dramatically promotes the development of interpretation.Whispering interpretation,featuring few requirements on equipment,has been applied in activities such as small meetings,business negotiations,escort interpretation.From August to November 2017,the Overseas Study Department of the Jiangsu Province International Exchange Centre held a series of meetings to exchange information about overseas study in New Zealand.The reporter's job was to interpret what the foreigners said in a low voice for her surrounding colleagues who knew little English.This report clarifies three major problems that the reporter encountered in the process of interpreting,arid the respective solutions offered to address those problems.The first problem is about the lack of background knowledge.So the interpreter needs to make full preparations in terms of themes,terminology,speakers and other factors.In addition to misinterpretation caused by accents,working memory is another difficulty the reporter encountered and the best way to overcome that is to put much emphasis on its root causes in daily practice.To get over disfluency,interpreters need to avoid nonfluent components and improve anti-pressure abilities.This report analyzes several important aspects of the whispering interpretation in the hope of providing innovative ideas for other interpreters.
