On Mei Zengliang's Poetry And Poetic Theory

Mei Zengliang,a famous litterateur in the middle and latter periods of Qing dynasty,was also a main representative of Tongcheng School ancient literary in its mid-term.In fact,Mr.Mei not only had good ancient literary skills but also made a lot of achievements in poetry.He accomplished many works which had their own poetics system.Mr.Mei emphasized that poetry should base on innate mind,and advocated true sentiments,which means that the feelings,the scenes and the cases in the poetry should be true,and he also believed that poetry should accurately reflect the change of the times,etc.Mei Zengliang had made a career out of composing and studying poetry and had a great influence on it,so to speak.Mei's poetry composition and his poetry thoughts are studying in this paper.The author starts with Mr.Mei's poetry composing approach,authoring environment,poetry style and poetry thoughts hoping to analyze Mei's poetic creation and poetry thoughts thoroughly and in detail.The whole paper is composed of the introduction and three sections.Firstly,in the introduction,the research significance of this topic and the basic style of Mei's poetry are introduced;secondly,the domestic and international studying situation of this topic is systematically combed;the last but not least,the research method and structure mode of this paper is introduced.Mei's poetry composing approach is debated in the first section,in which,his anthology Ancient Poetry Excerpt is taken as the entry point,combing with Mei's related poetry works,the questions like how does he study with others and what are the contents in his approach are debated in detail.Therefore,Mei's poetry thoughts and his poetry style can be understood more comprehensively.In second section,the author starts with Mei Zengliang's living environment,combing with his poetry works.Mei's poetry style that represent in different creation periods is analyzed.Therefore,it is concluded that Mei's identities were always wandering in scholar-official,litterateur and hermit,which is a status that caused by irreconcilable contradictions between his literatures missions and his living environment.In the last section,Mei's criticism of main poetics in Qing dynasty is analyzed,in which,the author summarized Mei's taking with abandoning of Wang Shizhen's romantic charm,correction and supplement of Yuan Mei's theory of temperament,the carrying and developing of Yao Nai's poetry,and his criticism to other poetry in Qing dynasty.
