On Female Image In Novels By Ge Shuiping

Since her first novella Whiplash was published in 2004,Ge Shuiping has written nearly forty novels at one fling.Being a persistent vernacular watcher,she investigated the real existing situation of local people in Taihang mountainous area.Under her sympathetic and plain pen,she created a series of female characters with varying personalities,showing their different fates under time and historical changes.This paper takes female characters appeared in Ge Shuiping's novels as its study object,trying to interpret these characters from historical,social and cultural perspectives.Furthermore,it will reveal female consciousness of these characters,exploring the author's distinctive views on women and the literary value and social significance of these female roles.Literature creation is closely related to historical background and national mentality,so is the creation of female characters in Ge Shuiping's novels.This paper contains three chapters.According to their different mentality and fates,the first chapter divides the female characters in Ge Shuiping's novels into three types:the traditional obedient type,the rebellious type in the predicament and the ideal harmonious type.Chapter two focuses on the different female consciousness revealed by these three types of female roles,unfolding their living state and spiritual experience.Chapter three reflects the author's distinctive views on women as well as the literary value and social significance of her vivid description of female.
