Modern Transformation Of Chinese Figure Painting

Figure painting in Chinese history is divided into many periods,the peak of traditional figure painting belongs to Tang,song,and yuan dynasties.Tang dynasty figure painting is elegant,song dynasty figure painting is beautiful,and yuan dynasty figure painting is meaningful,but most of the traditional paintings do not show real figures.After the founding of the People’s Republic of China,Chinese figure painting began to have more innovation,during this period,the style is different from the traditional painting style,which has become a classic on the road of reform and can’t be copied.However,these artists who have experienced this period are full of controversy,and many critics and philosophers have different views on them.In fact,these painters are like a bridge between the old society and the new society,as they have improved the expression of politics and form in figure painting,opened a new chapter of figure painting,and even opened an another door for the development of the world for Chinese painting.It is necessary for us to re-interpret and analyze their works,and then combine traditional painting with creative practice,contribute to the prosperity and rise of Chinese painting again.Liu Wenxi lived in an era when Chinese painting experienced an important transformation stage.As a practitioner living in this period,he accepted the academic education in western painting,and was familiar with the aesthetic rules of traditional painting.Through studying his artistic activities and contemporaries,we can see the reasons why Chinese traditional figure painting moved towards modern figure painting,and how traditional figure painting collided with western culture and turned to the modern figure painting paradigm.This thesis employs the "total-points-total" structure.Firstly,we summarize the process of modern transformation of figure painting,list important practical activities and achievements of the artists.Then,we take Liu Wenxi as an example to analyze the expression method and aesthetic interests in the background of the times,and discuss the factors of the painter’s style formation in the transformation period.Finally,this thesis summarizes the characteristics of the development of figure painting in the transitional period,and gives the enlightenment and conclusion.Through a series of examples and analysis,this thesis emphasizes the indispensable role of Liu Wenxi and his contemporaries in the development of Chinese figure painting,which connects the past and the future.From a scientific and dialectical perspective,it gives us correct cognition and evaluation of history,so as to guide us to better carry forward the unique artistic quality of the nation,absorb the essence of western art,and move forward on the road of reform and innovation.
