| In recent years, with the frequent exchange and communication between countries, translation has played a more and more significant role. The prosperity of literature translation makes people better realize that : translation is not only a process conveyed by linguistic signs from one language to another, but also a transform between two cultures and even more.China and Japan are the close neighboring countries with their history of more than 2000 years and with active connection in culture since antiquity.Although the rapid development of technological advances facilitate the interflow of people between two countries, our cultural rifts are hard to surpass. In the daily conversations between the two peoples, there still exists some points that we cannot understand each other. The translation of proverbs and common sayings, serving as the emphasis and difficulty of translation, has been keen to discuss in the translation industry.Surveying the present conditions at home,it’s often to generate research papers from the perspective of proverb translatability and untranslatability or translation methodology, however, the discussion on put the proverbs in the concrete contexts to process is not as common. On the basis of the seniors’ research, the thesis applies Nida’s theory of dynamic equivalence and Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory to the study of translation.Besides the generalizations of translation methodology,it also explore the corresponding translation in specific examples, hoping to summarize the translation skills of proverbs in different situations. The main contents of the thesis are divided into the following aspects. The first part is the introduction. It mainly introduces the research objectives and significance, approaches and theories, and the background. The second part mainly presents the composing characters and cultural traits of Japanese proverbs. It reflects the unique geographical environment, historical tradition of Japan, and their way of thinking, therefore,it’s better to understand and translate them by knowing the composing characters and cultural traits of Japanese proverbs. The third part mainly discusses the translation methodology of Japanese proverbs.According to Nida’s dynamic equivalence theory, the author divides the translation methodologies of Japanese proverbs into four categories. Some of the Japanese proverbs from Chinese that have not changed their semantics can be translated into source language proverbs using the “reduction method”;some of them are derived from Chinese but have undergone changes in the process of circulation."Language translation is based on similar phrases in Chinese;some idioms that cannot be translated using Chinese proverbs can be translated through the "interpretation method" and the "imitation method."The fourth part mainly discusses the translation methodology when Japanese proverbs are applied in specific contexts.Applying the theory of language adaptability of Belgian scholar Visolen, discuss under what circumstances the source language context should be translated, and under what circumstances should be translated into the context of the target language. Finally, summarize the full text and propose topics.Based on previous studies, this thesis systematically investigates and studies Japanese proverbs from the translation of independent proverbs and the application of Japanese proverbs in specific contexts.Of course, the author is only ignorant and shallow, and the study of Japanese proverbs translation methods is still raging, and it is still necessary to further study in the future learning process. |
