After a long period of development, the seal carving art has existed as an independent art category in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. The Mid-Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty was an important period for the development of Chinese seal carving art.The evolution of the seal carving genre in Ming and Qing Dynasties was concentrated on the sealing thought and sealing mode. From the mid-Ming to the late Qing dynasty, which lasted for nearly 500 years, many genres have emerged in seal carving art.For example,Wen Peng of Sanqiao School,He Zhen of Xueyu School,Cheng Yi of Yi School,Ding Jing of Zhe School,Deng Shiru of Deng School,Zhao Zhiqian of Huizhou School,Zhejiang School, and Wu Changshuo of Wu School. The evolution of seal carving genre thought in Ming and Qing Dynasties was embodied in the aspects of “Modeling of Han and Jin Dynasty”,“Modeling of Qin and Han Dynasty”,“sealing from sealing” “sealing from works”,“sealing outside sealing”.The evolution of seals carving methods in Ming and Qing Dynasties was concentrated in the aspects of "creating writing",“letter writing”,“knife writing”,etc.Genres of seal carving formed during the Ming and Qing Dynasties all had their own art characteristics. The evolution was regular and the range affected by each genre was not the same. The evolution of seal carving genre in Ming and Qing Dynasties has a strong reference for the development of sealing. We should strive to innovate on the basis of inheriting the achievements of our predecessors. As an important form of the art of seal carving in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the cutting school represented both rationality and limitations. In order to develop contemporary art of seal carving,we must make full use of all artistic achievements and get rid of the pattern of genre.Only in this way,can it move forward in a healthy and stable development.
