In the early 1960s,Out of cold war thinking, national security and the need to strengthen alliances,Australia followed U.S.involved in the Vietnam war without a moment’s hesitation. With the deepening of the war, there was a large-scale automatically organized anti-war movement against the government’s war of violating Vietnam,it also objected the National Service Act.The anti-war movement gradually grew into a larger scale in the mid-1960s,then continued to develop and extended to all sectors of society and all walks of life. Its anti-war tactics included demonstrations,sit-ins and teach-ins.There were also strikes and boycott classes. It was not until 1971,when the Australian government decided to withdraw its troops, that the peaceful anti-war movement gradually came to an end.The unprecedented anti-war movement had a widespread influence on Australian politics and society. It not only had a certain restrictive effect on the government’s Vietnam policy, but also promoted other social movements aimed at promoting social change in Australia. The anti-war movement also had a significant impact on the 1972 federal election. After the new Labor government came to power,it made a series of domestic and foreign policies different from the old one.
