The Influence Of Intimate Relationship Power On Relationship Commitment

The power of intimacy refers to the power perceived in a close relationship.It is based on the Principle of Least Interest which means that the one who has a lower dependence on the relationship and partner will have a relatively higher power;Relationship commitment is a subjective experience of relationship dependence and the intend to maintain this relationship.Intimacy satisfaction,as a reflection of the quality ofintimacy,can convey the individual's subjective feelings about the relationship.This research mainly examines the impact of the power in an intimate relationsh ip on relationship commitment,in which the satisfaction of intimate relationship is a n mediator variable,and marital status moderates the degree of intimacy and intimate relationship satisfaction.On the basis of the Principle of Least Interest,a person with a higher power in a close relationship is less dependent on the relationship and partner,and his / her most important needs is often not fully fille.Then the relationsh ip is not necessary for them,which will lead to a reduction in the level of its relationship commitment;On the contrary,for the individuals with a lower power th ere will be a highly dependence on their partners and relationships,which can fully a chieve their most important goals and then make them have a higher degree of intim ate relationship satisfaction so that they will have a higher level of commitment.The article makes the following three hypotheses:H1: intimacy and power have negative effects on relationship commitment.That is to say,those who have a higher power in an intimate relationship will have a lower level of commitment.H2: intimate relationship satisfaction plays an moderating role in the influence ofintimate relationship power on relationship commitment which means the higher one's power in a close relationship is,the lower the satisfaction of intimacy is,and the lower the commitment of their relationship is.H3: marital status moderates the influence of intimate relationship power on relation ship commitment.For unmarried people,the higher their close relationship power is,the lower the level of their relationship commitment is;for married people,the high er their close relationship power is,the higher their relationship commitment level is.This paper uses the questionnaire method to collect data.The questionnaire includes:the sexual relationship power scale compiled by Cortmaker Dejong,the subscale of the investment model scale compiled by Rusbult-the satisfaction subscale and the r elation commitment subscale.The subjects were from those who knows what love is,including individuals being in a love relationships now,individuals that is marriges and individuals who had already broken up.157 of them were in love,245 were marr ied,and 171 had been separated.The above hypothesis is confirmed according to the statistical results.This study is a further exploration of close relationship.With the close relationsh ip power as a breakthrough point,the survey selects 17-55 year old Chinese who is i n a close relationship as subjects.There are many researches about power throughout the world,but there are few studies on the power of intimacy.This article can be use d as a supplement.
