Reading is an important way to help people to get information from the text.It is one of the four language skills that English learners have to master.Reading takes a large part in the College Entrance Examination,so in English language teaching,reading plays an important role.A great number of studies show that English reading strategies can cultivate students' s ability of reading comprehension and improve their reading efficiency.Meanwhile,reading strategy is also an important project in the College Entrance Examination.Grade One students in senior high schools are in the process of connecting with junior high school students,They are required to master the further level of reading strategies compared with that in junior high schools.it is necessary to cultivate the English reading strategies of students,especially in Grade One students in senior high schools.The aim of this study is to apply the model of cultivation of strategies based on SBI to English reading teaching and cultivate English reading strategies of Grade One students,to improve the level of students' s reading comprehension.By means of questionnaire,interviewing and teaching experiment to collect relevant data,this study tries to answer the following questions:(1)What is the situation of application in English reading strategies of Grade One students in senior high schools?(2)What is,at present,the situation of English teachers cultivation of English reading strategies in Grade One students?(3)What is the influence of the model of cultivation of strategies based on SBI on the reading comprehension ability of Grade One students in senior high schools?In this study,the author selected 5 English teachers and 106 students as subjects.The 106 students are from Grade One in Jigang Senior High School.They are in two classes of equal rank taught by the author.The author randomly chose one of them as the experimental class,and another one as the control class.In order to know the situation of the cultivation of English reading strategies in Grade One students,theauthor interviewed the students in the experimental class;Meanwhile,the author chose five English teachers from Grade One in Jigang Senior High School,in order to explore the situation of the cultivation of English reading strategies in Grade One students;The students in the two classes,the experimental class and the control class,were respectively tested before the teaching experiment,to test whether there is a significant difference between the two classes in the level of English reading comprehension.The analysis results showed that there was no significant difference between the two classes in English reading comprehension,so these two classes are under the experimental condition.In experimental class,the reading strategies training based on SBI(Strategies-Based Instruction),while in the control class,students received traditional English reading teaching model.The students in the two classes of the experimental class and the control class were respectively tested after the teaching experiment,helping to know the influence of the model of cultivation of strategies based on SBI on the ability of reading comprehension of Grade One students in senior high school.Through this research,the author finds:(1)During the process of reading,most of Grade One students sometimes use skimming,scanning,predicting strategy,and the rest of the requirements of senior high schools for reading strategies are rarely used.(2)At present,although teachers from Grade One in senior high schools agree that reading strategies play important roles in English reading,and traditional reading classes rarely involve the cultivation of reading strategies,and reading exercise class is also superficial to the cultivation of reading strategies.There was no in-depth study,and without a model for the cultivation of reading strategies on students.(3)The cultivation of strategies based on SBI can improve the awareness of strategies and the level of reading comprehension.The students in the two classes,the experimental class and the control class,were respectively tested before the teaching experiment.Through this study,the author has known the situation of Grade One students' application of reading strategies in senior high schools need improving immediately,and problems and demands existed in current situation of Grade One English teachers' cultivation of reading strategies in senior high schools.This lays a foundation for theexperiment of reading strategies in the next stage.The author has proved a model of cultivation of strategies based on SBI for reference,which can effectively improve the ability of reading comprehension of students in Grade One.The teaching case in reading class designed according to the model of cultivation of strategies based on SBI in this experiment can also be used for reference by English teachers in teaching reading.In practice,this study can give English teachers from Grade One in senior high schools a model for reference when they cultivate the students' English reading strategies.
