The Think-Aloud Controversy in Second Language Research discusses questions about the validity and use of think-alouds,and systematically expounds their theoretical and practical basis,serving as a guide for any language researcher who uses them as a research tool.As an academic monograph,this six-chapter book in English is to elaborate the author's research findings and ideas.This report's author translates Chapter 1 and Chapter 2,and completes the report on the basis of them.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory and considering language and stylistic features,the report's author determines principles of translating this book,striving to not only accurately convey the original information,but also highlight features of academic texts.Meanwhile,after analyzing and studying the translation practice,the report's author summarizes strategies and skills of translating academic texts,helping to improve the translation quality.This report consists of five parts.Chapter one is about the background information of the translation practice,including the overview,objectives,nature and features of the task.Chapter two is to describe the plan of the translation practice,from the ten aspects of role orientation,translation tools,parallel texts,selection of translation strategies,quality control,contingency plan,formulation of the glossary,translation of the source text,revision of the translation,post-translation matters.Chapter three is the description of the translation theory applied in the translation practice,including analysis of its applicability and feasibility in the practice after a brief introduction of the theory.Chapter four covers analysis of specific examples in the translation practice,elaborating translation difficulties and problems and translation strategies adopted by the report's author to solve them under the guidance of translation theory,in order to guide future work by classifying problems and summarizing adopted translation strategies and skills.Chapter five is conclusion,including a brief summary and reflection of the translation practice and unsolved problems.At the end of the dissertation are references and appendices including source text,target text and glossary.
