| Academic texts play an important role in spreading academic ideas and promoting academic exchanges.Academic texts are targeted at specific target language readers and have the characteristics of rigor,objectivity,multiple professional terms and wide range of disciplines,which put forward higher requirements for translators.The translation of academic texts should not only follow the rigorous and objective academic style of the original texts,but also consider the reading reaction of specific target language readers,so as to achieve the purpose of academic communication.The core concept of functional equivalence theory is functional equivalence,which not only emphasizes the information equivalence,but also strives to achieve the consistency of target language readers’ reading responses and focuses on the communicative function of texts.Considering the characteristics and functions of academic texts,the author believes that it is feasible to select functional equivalence theory to guide the translation of academic texts.This translation practice report is based on the translation practice project of Psychology of Learning for Instruction（Fourth Edition）in which the author has participated.The text topic is psychology of learning in teaching.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author adopted case analysis method and discussed the methods and techniques of academic text translation from the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.The author’s view is that at the lexical level,the translation techniques like word addition and subtraction and conversion of part of speech can be adopted.At the syntactic level,translation techniques such as adjusting word order,splitting long sentences,and transforming passive sentences into active sentences can be applied.At the level of discourse,the reconstruction of cohesion and coherence and the reorganization of discourse layout can be adopted.Through using the translation techniques stated above,the author committed to improving the quality of translation,aiming to provide some references for the study on translation of academic texts in the future. |
