The mastery of English consonants and vowels is influenced by the students' national and regional phonetic system,which is a kind of negative transfer.The thesis selects Zibo Dialect as the researching object and primarily explores the negative transfer of Zibo Dialect on English phonetic acquisition.Shandong Province can be classified as east district of Lu,east district of Wei,west district of Lu and west district of Qi.As a prefecture-level city of Shandong,Zibo belongs to west district of Qi.The exploration of the influence on the mastery of English consonants and vowels is beneficial to surmounting the negative effect of regional dialect on English speech sounds.Thus the author inquires the phonetic systems of Zibo Dialect and Standard English through acoustic means to redress the pronouncing mistakes likely to be made by the EFL(English Foreign Language)learners from Zibo Dialect region,so as to assist them to speak Standard English accurately.The thesis investigates the phonetic characteristics of the English learners from Zibo Dialect region and how the students' articulations of English segments are influenced by native language through the comparison of the acoustic characteristics between Zibo EFL learners and native speakers.The analysis is processed through the phonetic experiment and phonetic software PRAAT,and quite a few indices are selected to compare the sounds pronounced by Zibo EFL learners and native English speakers.The thesis makes a thorough inquiry into the common acoustic issues and offers corresponding suggestions to enhance the English phonetic teaching and learning levels in the region.
