With the acceleration of the pace of Chinese culture going abroad, there has an upsurge of learning Confucianism in many countries. As one of the classic works of Confucianism, the Analects is a hot topic for the study of foreign sinologists. The book Moral Exemplars in ‘the Analects' : The Good Person is That is written by Amy Olberding. It involves eight chapters with two parts, the theory and exemplars.I'm responsible for the excerpts of Chapter Two,An Origins Myth for ‘the Analects'.In this chapter,Amy begins by introducing the exemplarist moral theory and the theory of direct reference, which is proposed by Kripke and Putnam to provide a new theoretical model to understand the Analects. The source text is an academic work, which contains a lot of passive structure and long and difficult sentences. Both of them constitute the key and difficult points in the translation process.Under the guidance of semantic and communicative translation strategies,I try my best to express the author's ideas faithfully and correctly. This report involves two sections.Section one is the description of the translation process, while section two,as an appendix, mainly presents the source text and the target text. There are five chapters in section one.The prior three chapters are the introduction, task description, and process description respectively. The fourth chapter is case analysis. In this chapter,I explore the translation strategies of the academic work at the lexical level, syntactical level and discourse level, and discuss the translating problems in word choice in context, collocation, passive voice, the long and difficult sentences and discourse. The fifth chapter is the conclusion,in which I summary the gains and limitations of this report.Despite its shortcomings,I hope that this report can provide references for people who are interested in the translation and study of Confucianism.
