The 2011 compulsory education "English curriculum standards" puts forward specific requirements for students' writing ability.However,due to the limitation of teaching periods,teachers' attention is not enough.Teaching methods are not interesting,and the English writing situation of children in primary school is worrying,especially in rural areas.Memetics was first proposed by Dawkins,British famous biologist,which was then introduced into China by linguist He Ziran who combined memetics with language study to do research.Language is a kind of meme itself.Any word,sentence,paragraph and chapter can be changed to meme,as long as they are copied or spread through imitation.And a successful meme spreading must include four stages:assimilation,retention,expression and transmission.Therefore,the author based on the theory of language memes and primary school students' psychological characteristics,put forward the understanding,practice,application,expansion of writing teaching model into experimental study,aimed at improving the pupils' English writing enthusiasm and English writing level.The study was conducted for 16 weeks,and the subjects were 93 students in two different classes in grade 6 of Wuhan Guanggu JiuFeng Primary School.First of all,through the data analysis of the final examination of the three classes in this grade,we selected two classes that were parallel to the writing level,one for the ordinary class and one for the experimental class.Then,gave one writing lesson each class,the regular class used the conventional teaching method,the experimental class accepted the mode of writing under the theory of memetics.Then,analysis the data of the final tests by SPSS20.0.At last,the children were asked to do a questionnaire survey to see what effect the different writing teaching model had on them.The results showed that the average writing performance of the experimental class was higher than that of the average class after the experiment,and the average score of English test was higher than that of the average class.In addition,children understand the importance of English writing,they pay more attention to the structure and grammar of written sentences,and have more authentic expressions on the basis of imitation.This new attempt on the teaching method of English writing will have a positive effect on English writing teaching in rural areas of primary school.
