The Shuanglin Temple is known as the "Oriental Colorful Art Museum".The secularized and dramatic color painting in the temple has changed people's traditional views of Buddhist art which lacks vividness in the Ming Dynasty,and it has precious artistic value.Among these colorful sculptures,there are many sculptures which are small in size and stand lean to the wall,they are feast for the eyes and numerous.lt is a vivid description of the life of the Buddha,the story of Guan Yu's life,the graceful feelings of the Bodhisattva,and the characteristics of the folk art.This dissertation focuses on the hanging sculptures about the life of the Buddha,a case study of the Buddha's life story from birth to nirvana.The group of hanging sculptures hangs over the three walls of the Sakya Temle,paving the way for believers to go from the secular world to the Buddhism world.The grottoes and temples in our country have a large number of murals and embossment that depict the story of Buddha's biography,but from the point of view of the method of molding,the story of Buddha's biography in the temple of sakyaman has a unique feature.However,from the longitudinal perspective,there are both inheritance and creation compared to the painting illustrating life of the Buddha before the Ming Dynasty.The use of stratified comic strips on the layout has been influenced by our country's traditional arts.,and the spatial sense plotting,dramatization,living characteristics created by the walls are different from the grotto murals and sculptures.From a horizontal perspective,the Sakya Temple in the Shuanglin Temple has more than 40 stories of the life of the Buddha,and there are 84 detailed figures which are not followed that of the Ming Dynasty.Although the form is slightly simplified compared to the mural,the three-dimensional figures on the wall are unique.The dissertation is divided into four parts.The first part is the analysis of the geographical location and remains of the Shuanglin Temple.The second part is the iconology analysis of the hanging sculptures about the life of the Buddha in Sakya Temple,as well as contrasts with the popular version of the printed picture-story book "The Origin of Buddha and Buddhism",and analyzes the contents of the hanging sculptures.At the same time,it is clarified that the suspense of the story of Buddhism in Sakyamuni Temple reflects the combination of various beliefs and its spiritual connotation in the overall space of Shuanglin Temple.The third part compares the hanging sculptures about the life of the Buddha with other areas,highlights the secular,dramatic,and minimalist features of hanging sculptures the life of the Buddha in Sakya Temple,and realizes the uniqueness of the hanging sculptures Art that flourished in the Ming Dynasty.
