The 21 st century is a diversified information era.In face of different kinds of information,readers need to have the ability of reading critically.English Curriculum Standards of General High Schools(2017)put forward the cultivation of students' English core competencies,in which students' thinking quality is greatly focused.At the same time,critical thinking is also a vital element in thinking quality.Critical reading is an effective way to cultivate students' critical thinking.Therefore,many scholars at home and abroad have focused on how to effectively use critical reading strategies in reading teaching.At present,they have paid more attention to the experimental studies on critical reading strategies.However,there are little researches on the current situation of the application of those strategies in English reading teaching.Hence,this research aims to investigate the application status of them and analyze those existing problems.The author will investigate 8 teachers and 160 students in Zhengzhou NO.16 Middle School by using two methods of questionnaires and interviews,and try to answer the following questions:(1)What are the teachers' attitudes to critical reading strategies in English reading teaching in senior high school?(2)What is the frequency of critical reading strategies used by teachers in English reading teaching in senior high school?(3)What are the effects of critical reading strategies used by teachers on senior high students' English reading?Through the statistical analysis of the results of the questionnaires and interviews,the author draws the following conclusions:(1)Nearly all the teachers have positive attitudes to critical reading strategies.However,teachers have not a comprehensive knowledge of the theory of critical reading strategies.(2)The total frequency of teachers using critical reading strategies is not high.And teachers use each strategy to some different extent.The highest frequency of using critical reading strategies is previewing strategy while the lowest is evaluating strategy.(3)Teachers' using of critical reading strategies can affect students' acquisition of critical reading strategies,reading interest,reading habit,reading speed and critical reading ability.Through the scientific methods,this paper aims to investigate the current situation of the application of critical reading strategies to English reading teaching in general senior high school,find out the existing problems and put forward some feasible suggestions for reading teaching in the future.
