China Internet Network Information Center launched its latest report,The 41st China Statistical Report on Internet Development,saying that until the end of 2017,772 million of Chinese citizens have become the netizens,and that the Internet penetration rate has rose to 55.8%,surpassing the average level of 51.7%over the world.Among this huge group of people,game players in China add up to 442 million,which make up 57.2%of netizens.A huge number of people in China are watching game-relevant videos.So does the oversea netizens.YouTube is producing over 400 hours of videos per minute.According to Newzoo,a provider of market intelligence,there are over 20 million how-to videos for games on YouTube among all the videos,and in 2016,there were over 40 million hours of gaming unboxing videos on YouTube and on mobile alone.According to Strike Social,over 81%of Americans are watching YouTube.The CEO of YouTube shared on June 2017 that there were over 1.5 billion active users monthly around the world.And among all the users,74%have watched game how-to videos.Games,which are different from other forms of entertainment,are encompassing;they welcome every one.If a game is popular all over the world,one can easily run into another player who may not even hear another language,but still,they are able to play good games.As players grow more absorbed,they become eager to know more about the game.To feed the eagerness,they have to read first-hand information which is likely to be presented in English videos.For one thing,subtitles videos are badly wanted by game players;for another,game-relevant videos are being produced generously.With this background,this report reviews the translation text of an interview video about the game—God of War—from the perspective of Skopostheorie.The report is divided into five chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction of the task.Chapter 2 is a theoretical framework,which includes Skopostheorie and subtitling.Chapter 3,the translation process,is composed of before,while and after-translation.Chapter 4 reviews the translation text and employs various translation methods under three rules respectively.Chapter 5 is the conclusion.
