The source text of this translation project,Globalization,Social Exclusion and Gender,is an article selected from the book Women,Gender and Work Volume2,which was issued by International Labour Organization in 2007.It is a typical example of informative text. From the perspective of women in developing countries, the article explores the various processes of social exclusion and inclusion in the context of globalization, and provides specific solutions for the issue of social exclusion. The translation and research of this report can provide reference for Chinese policy makers to improve the employment of domestic women workers, which is of practical value to some extent. The project report explores the major issues and difficulties during the process of translation from three levels:lexical level, syntactic level and textual level. The major issues and difficulties at lexical level include how to translate abbreviations, how to deal with polysemy and synonym and how to change the part of speech. The major issues and difficulties at syntactic level consist of how to translate long and complicated sentences as well as passive sentences. The major issue and difficulty at textual level is how to achieve coherence. The causes leading to above-mentioned issues and difficulties are analyzed, including the influences of polysemy and synonym, the lack of background knowledge, the different sentence patterns between English and Chinese, and the hidden logical relationships in the text.Under the guidance of the translation principles "faithfulness, expressiveness, elegance" put forward by Yan Fu,which emphasize the accuracy of the translation, the project report puts forward the corresponding strategies:changing the part of speech, addition, deduction and reorganization, which not only offer solutions to solving the above-mentioned major issues and difficulties, but also provide reference,if there is any,for those who translate informative texts.
