This project report is based on the translation of Gender and the Informal Economy:Key Challenges and Policy Response,an informative text which was issued by the International Labour Organization in 2017.The source text gives a general analysis on the current trends of the informal employment, female employment status in the developing world and the obstacles and discriminations females have to face in the world of work.Hence such reports are of great importance for promoting social development in China. This project report has summarized the stylistic features of the source text:formality of its speech and complexity of its sentence structure, and the difficulties in its translation at the lexical level, the syntactic level and the discourse level. The major difficulties at the lexical level are caused by the translation of technical terms, acronyms, loanwords and the non-English words;the major difficulties at the syntactic level lie in the translation of adverbial clauses, attributive clauses and the passive voice;and the major difficulties at the discourse level are how to achieve cohesion and coherence of the target text.According to this report, causes of such difficulties can be drawn from two aspects:the inherent cultural differences and the translator's lack of expertise. This report also provides some translation skills such as linear translation, amplification and omission, not only to address difficulties at different levels, but also to provide reference for the translation of informative texts.
