School bullying refers to the actions of bullying, verbal humiliation, extortion and even beatings happening among the classmates. In a global view,a number of countries have conducted relevant surveys and studies on the related issues of bullying. In China, most of the existing surveys have been carried out by scholars or relevant agencies in specific regions. The high incidence of school bullying has aroused widespread concern in the society and the government. For this reason, the translator chose the third chapter Gender Regulation from the book Gender Regulation,Violence and Social Hierarchies in School as the object of the translation practice and research. It is hoped that the target text offered by the translator can provide some reference for China's anti-bullying in school settings. This thesis consists of two parts:the English version of the source text with a total of 17,000 English words and a report based on the translation practice. The translation report explains the background, theoretical guidance, purpose and significance of the translation project, introduces the content and linguistic features of the source text, describes various work done by the translator before, during and after the translation, and summarizes the translation difficulties such as the translation of professional terms, the quoted sentences and long and complex sentences as well as the corresponding solutions to those problems. In addition, the report illustrates with specific examples how the translator, under the guidance of Newmark's Communicative Translation theory, adopted translation techniques such as amplification, omission, division, and conversion to achieve precision and fluency, trying to conform to the reading habits of Chinese readers. The report reveals that in order to ensure quality, the translator needs to consult a large number of related parallel texts while translating the source text, and after translation,it is essential for the translator to carefully check the target text, repeatedly revising it.Meanwhile,Newmark's Communicative Translation theory has a strong guiding significance for the translation of informative text. The quality of the transaltion practice under the guidance of translation theories can be better guarrantted. Moreover, this translation project is significant in that it has enabled the translator to learn more about school bullying and expand her knowledge. It is also an opportunity for the translator to apply what she has learned to practice. The translator has basically mastered how to translate the informative text, providing experience and guidance for her future translation.
