A Report On The Translation Of Popular Science Texts With Theme Of Environment

In the great process of economic and scientific development,the Chinese government has given increasing weight to the jobs of popular science.More and more works of popular science have been published,and most of them are translated from foreign languages.The translation of texts of popular science has occupied an important position in spreading knowledge about social and natural science.The thesis is a translation report based on the translation project which is the translation of the extra-curricular readings materials.The project includes many articles from magazines of popular science,covering various topics.The author selects articles with the subject of the environment as the analysis object.With the guidance of the Translation-Oriented Text Analysis Model proposed by Christiane Nord,the author analyzes the original texts from extratextual and intratextual factors to identify acceptable translation strategies.And from the perspective of Nord's translation theory of Function plus Loyalty,the author explores specific methods and skills to produce translations which are more accurate and more consistent with the requirements of the project.The report reviews the complete process of the translation project.It firstly introduces the translation project and preparations for the translation,including the project initiator,translation requirements,translation tools,the theoretical guidance and the source-texts analysis.Then,it illustrates the problems supposed to be valued in this translation project,like proper nouns,culture-loaded words and direct speeches,and presents corresponding solutions,including transliteration,annotation,division and amplification.Next,the author makes a summary of the translation project,recognizing that it is critical for a qualified translator to have a good ability of Chinese wording,to acquire a wide range of knowledge and to know some translation theories,besides being proficient in English language.Finally,it concludes the role of the Nord's theories noted above in guiding the translation of popular science texts and the translation methods and skills to certain problems in the translation of the genre.
