On The Modern Tragedies In Works By Shi Tiesheng

Shi Tiesheng is a unique writer on the stage of contemporary literature in China.He was suddenly disabled at the age of 21,and he was endowed with a strong subjective consciousness because of his life experience and perception.Although Shi Tiesheng learnt wildly from other's points,he did not go with the stream of any other thoughts,but with his unique perspective,cold vision and sympathetic attitude to observe human beings,observe the world.Shi Tiesheng always has a lingering sense of tragedy in his writing.With his spirit of soul to human and things,he has a scale of all things,which gives his tragedy an obvious modern characteristic.This article will analyze the embodiment of modernity tragedy in Shi Tiesheng's works from five points:First,the survival hope after disabled,Shi Tiesheng transcended the individual grief and joy,from"disabled people" to "human disability",with a onlooker's perspective to care about the crisis of human's destiny;Second,the absurd way out of destiny,Shi Tiesheng pointed out acutely that living in world,it is difficult to grasp oneself destiny,but to the outside world equally difficult to explain.In his writing,the paradoxical trace exists everywhere;Third,the plight of the soul under loneliness,from two levels to analyze,regardless of the disabled or healthy people,individuals or groups,loneliness is the soul curse that people unable to escape;Forth,cognition of death in fear,Shi Tiesheng admits the fear of death,but also believe that,since the ending cannot be changed,the meaning of life should be focused on the present;Fifth,the painful experience of desire.Shi Tiesheng points out that pain originates from the eternal distance between human ability and human desire.It is necessary to face up to desire and also restrict it at the same time.In addition,the second part of this paper attempts to explore the source of Shi Tiesheng's modern tragedy:Firstly,it comes from the writer's unique personal experience and background;secondly,Christianity and Buddhism also influence his modern tragedy;finally,Shi Tiesheng's reflection on modern civilization which includes the influence from absurd philosophy and his reflection on science and technology civilization.The last part of this paper attempts to explore the value of his modern tragedy.Shi Tiesheng shows his ultimate concern for the fate of human beings through the modern tragic writing,at the same time,he makes a refutation of the Chinese tradition and takes history as a mirror to take care of contemporary social problems.
