On The Narrative Structure Of Fan Yiping's Novels

As one of the representative writers of Guangxi's literary arena's “New Gui Army”,as a hard core of the literators and a leader of the “Du'an Writers Group”,Fan Yiping's novels mainly focus on the people who live in the place where he once lived and grew up.He always considers those people as the narrative objects.Whether it described the rural areas or cities,there are many familiar sceneries everywhere.His novels are popular with its witty language style,complex characters' characteristics,ups and downs of the plot,and lively and vivid pictures among the readers.By reading his works,we can not only realize the individual's hard struggle in the materialistic society,and how they fight with their destiny,but also we can understand the gaps of the ideals of characters and social reality,cities and villages.This thesis will start with the texts of the two novels,"Tiandeng mountain " and "The Murder in Shangling Village," and apply the relevant theoretical knowledge of narratology-flashback,omission,"action metamodel" theory and "Greimas' s Semantic Matrix" and so on to interpret and research the narrative structures of the novels.This thesis can be divided into three parts:The first part is the introduction.First of all,it briefly introduces some basic situations,major works and some achievements that Fan Yiping has been made.Secondly it will introduce the origin and the target of the research,and the current research status of his works in the academic circle,then evoke the purpose and significance of the research on this topic.Thirdly a general summary of the "structure" and the general characteristics of four different structures to be studied will be given in this paper.The second part is the main body,including four chapters: The first chapter will analyze the structure of flashback,focusing on understanding the wonderful features of the suspense setting in the text and let readers know it is how to progressively reveal the cultural features in this structure clearly.The second chapter will analyze the open structure in fictions,mainly by analyzing the Defamiliarization's blank-leaving / omission,and exploring the spiritual space behind this structure.The third chapter will elaborate the surface structure of the text and use Greimas' s “action metamodel " theory to divide the relationship of the characters in these two texts,so as to explore the structural pattern of " solving the case " is how to transformed.The fourth chapter mainly uses the Greimas' s Semantic Matrix" that established on the basis of the binary opposition mode of thinking to interpret the deep structure of the novels.And then starting from the three pairs of contradictions: ideal and reality,desire and human nature,and good and evil,I hope to find out the deep meaning behind the stories.The last part is conclusion,which further deepens the narrative structure of the novels by summing the above,and highlights the tragic theme it contains.The author dared to face the real problems existing in this society—“The incident of fighting the eliminate pornography and illegal publications in Danguan” and “stay-at-home women” in rural areas.He paid attention to the fate of individuals and provided readers with a fresh and profound aesthetic experience.Now this thesis will start from a different perspective than the previous research directions.It will analyze the narrative structure of these two novels,and demonstrate the aesthetic implication of their profound tragedy themes based on the narrative structure of the novels.The paper will analyze those novels from four perspectives at the same time,with a view to hewing out a new path for the interpretation of the two works of Fan Yiping,so that readers can feel their unique narrative charm.
