At present,the teaching quality of English writing in senior high schools of our country is far from satisfactory.Students' ability of English writing remains to be promoted.There are common problems in their English writing,including difficulty in writing,not clear expression,unknown key points,similar statements,narrow vocabulary,not strong readability,and so on.Combining requirements of teaching English writing in the new English Curriculum Standard for ordinary school(2017),this study is based on three kinds of theory,The Input Hypothesis,Language Learning models,the Output Theory.The purpose of this study is to explore the problems existing in the teaching of English writing in senior high school,analyze the reasons for senior high students'insufficient English writing ability,and then explore the countermeasures.Three questions are to be explored in this study:(1)What the teachers and students of senior high schools of Y City think of the teaching of English writing?(2)What are the strengths and weaknesses of the teaching of English writing?(3)How to improve the teaching of English writing?According to the results of the questionnaire,the interview and the classroom observation,the vast majority of teachers can conduct classroom language teaching,focusing on the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard,keeping in mind the primary purposes of English teaching.However,a minority of teachers assume that English writing is the core part of the comprehensive application ability of English-using skills.Most teachers attach much importance to the teaching of English writing,but the consequences of teaching can hardly live up to their original expectations.Students don't greatly concern themselves with English writing and are lacking in writing strategies and training after school,which results in their barely satisfactory marks in writing.They are hoping to turn to teachers for help.There are strengths in the teaching of English writing,including students' relatively adequate knowledge of Grammar and vocabulary,helping cultivate good habits of English writing,and establishing new relationship between teachers and students.There also exist weaknesses:teachers' not paying much attention to the teaching of English writing,lack of teaching of writing strategies,the absence of systematic writing teaching in daily English teaching,teachers less developing students'English literacy,professional competence of some teachers requiring to be raised,students' lacking interest in English writing.Finally,the author puts forward the countermeasures of improving the English writing classes of senior high schools in Y City:improving the teaching methods,combining the core literacy with teaching of English writing and innovating evaluation models.
