| In the new era,the art field has also undergone great changes with the breaking of political taboos, the improvement of economic conditions and the influx of foreign artistic thoughts. As an exotic art form, oil painting gradually became localized after a hundred years of development in China.During this period, the oil painting art was combined with the most traditional rural folk culture in China, which created a style of oil painting with Chinese characteristics.Under the background of economic globalization and urbanization,China’s ancient rural folk culture has already faded or disappeared. Therefore,it is of great significance to re-examine the development of rural folk-themed oil paintings in order to establish the cultural confidence of the Chinese nation. This article focuses on the oil painting creation on rural folk theme in the new period, analyzes its background, sorts out the main creators and representative works and discusses the types of themes, character modeling features and color construction. Finally the paper points out the psychological and aesthetic effects of rural folk culture on the painters and appreciators in the oil painting creation, protection of traditional culture, and its localization significance. This article is divided into four parts. The first part is the introduction, analyzing the background and significance of the topic, the present academia’s oil painting research on rural folk themes, the research scope--the“new age” oil painting on rural folk themes and the methods used in the research. The second part explores the concept of rural folk themed oil paintings. It explains “folklore”,“rural folklore”,types of rural folk and the relationship between rural folk painting and rural folklore. Then the author thinks rural folk oil paintings result from lack of “localization”,the imbalance between art and technology, and “rural nostalgia”.The third part analyzes theme classification of rural folk oil paintings in terms of production, life, festivals, life rituals and culture. It discusses the the modeling style of the characters and of exaggerated styling. It is believed that the theme of suchpaintings attaches importance to folk art as well as the use of a variety of color contrast to highlight the theme. The fourth part analyzes the psychological effect of rural folk oil paintings on the creative subjects, the guiding effect on the appreciators’ taste, and the significance of protecting Chinese traditional culture and creating new oil paintings.Rural folk paintings,of course, are not mainstream in the present oil painting creation, and they are also lack of popularity and strong social criticism. However, such paintings help to guide the development and creation of China’s future oil paintings. It is hoped that through the author’s research more creators will go deep into the creation of rural folk oil paintings and further promote the “localization” of Chinese oil paintings, tapping and protecting traditional Chinese culture. |
