Addition is a strategy often used in E-C translation.Chinese language and English language are very different.Generally,compared with Chinese,English is more restrict in form.So,in E-C translation,some words are supposed to added so that what the author wants to say can be expressed clearly.Only in this way can the translation be in line with the usage of Chinese and at the same time relieve reader's burden in reading the translation.The report is based on the practice of translation A History of Canada.In the process of translating,the author found that addition was needed in many places in order to make the translation readable and comprehensible.Through a careful study on additions in translation product,the author tries to summarize different situations on which the strategy of addition has to be used,hoping the result of this study can be helpful for translators encountering the same problems in future translation.This report is composed of four parts.The first chapter is an introduction and it is mainly about translation material,tasks and its significance.Chapter two is mainly about task process.In this chapter,the author has described work she has done in preparation,translation process and proofreading.Chapter three is mainly about analysis of examples.In this chapter,the author has analyzed some special examples that are related to the use of additions.Chapter four is the conclusion of this paper.
