With distinct characteristics of Chinese language, the Chinese Terasyllabic Words are regarded as the essence of Chinese language culture. Its symmetrical structure, vividness and rich cultural messages make it expressive and appealing. However, it is not easy to reproduce the sound, rhyme, structure and cultural message in English due to the huge difference between English and Chinese language. The Chinese Terasyllabic Words are widely used in foreign publicity translation and its flowery language and unique sentence pattern are quite different from that in English. Based on Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and the examples from the translation of Study in Beijing, this paper aims at analyzing the translation of Chinese Terasyllabic Words in foreign publicity from the perspectives of informative function and expressive function and employing proper translation methods to achieve functional equivalence.
