On The Translation Of Sentences In English Frame Net

English FrameNet,based on the Frame Semantics advanced by Charles J.Fillmore,is a lexical database of authentic materials built in University of California,Berkeley.By adopting empirical method,it integrates the meaning of words,sentences and texts in the Frames with its aim to serve the computer in the recognition of natural language.The translation of English FrameNet into Chinese is a part of the construction of Chinese FrameNet and the translated frames will serve as referents for Chinese FrameNet.The translation materials of FrameNet mainly involve the translation of Frame names,Frame definitions,Frame elements,examples,Frame relations and lexical units.In this report,based on the translation materials of English FrameNet,the author aims to find out effective ways of translating sentences in the FrameNet into Chinese.By analyzing problems in translating frames,the authors wants to summarize some effective strategies for translating sentences in FrameNet so that accurate translation can be provided for Chinese FrameNet.The report mainly includes four parts.The author introduces the background,requirements and significance of the project in the first part.The second part is about the translation process,including preparation before translation,translation process and proofreading.Chapter three is the main body of this report,that is,Case study.In this part,by summing up the features of sentences in FrameNet and analyzing problems in translation,the authors concludes that the translation of FrameNet sentences should be cognition-oriented and the cognitive factors in constructing sentence meaning should be taken into consideration.The author lists three cognitive factors:thinking pattern,focus information and background information and core and non-core FrameNet elements.After analyzing them,the corresponding strategies for translating sentences are given.The last part is the conclusions.In this part,the experience and some thoughts in this translation project arediscussed to provide referents for other projects in the future.
