Wu Gongheng,a famous writer from Hunan Province in modern times,who crossed the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,has written many books in his life.There are as many as 27 types of couplets,genealogies,and local records.He is the author of Lian Hua,Cili County Records,Poetry Collection of Huihuitang,Essay Collection of Huihuitang,Letters Collection of Huihuitang,etc..This article is an exploration of Poetry Collection of Huihuitang,which can promote the understanding of Wu Gongheng’s works.The contents of Wu Gongheng’s poems include the feelings Wu Gongheng had seen during his life.He indirectly witnessed the changes of the times and the transition of the Qing Dynasty scholars to the Republic of China.By far,there are no monograph focus on Wu’s poem.The introduction sorted out and summarized the life of Wu Gongheng,the introduction of the Poetry Collection of Huihuitang,and the social interaction of Nanshe and the current situation of research,and clarified the reasons for choosing the topic.The first chapter to the third chapter,focusing on being novel and classic,are the main parts of the full text.The first chapter is mainly to explain the seven stages of Wu Gongheng’s works.The works are summarized as people who pursue fame,strange people,party members,fugitives,soldiers,and poets.Then an example analysis of Wu Gongheng’s ancient poetry exemplifies the poems he criticized the times,made friends through poem and advocated the revolution.The second chapter mainly discusses that Wu Gongheng maintains classical style in poetry creation and inherits the characteristics of traditional poetry.His classical style is reflected in the use of ancient poems,the use of codes,and the selection of themes.The third chapter mainly embodies the artistic style of Wu Gongheng’s poetry.The first is natural simplicity and outstanding.The second is the vulgarity and strangeness.In the remainder of the article,I briefly describe the intellectual history of late Qing scholars and the significance of Wu Gongheng’s poems for modern literature.From the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China,Wu Gongheng experienced multiple dynasties.Wu Gongheng’s attitude towards literature is contradictory.On the one hand,he is conservative and chose to honor ancient times in the New Culture Movement.On the other hand,he also immersed in a new era,initiated the progressive thinking,such as promoting the equality of men and women,women should also receive education,support for education.The Poetry Collection of Huihuitang is a book worthy of the achievements of modern literature.From the perspective of social history,it spans a long period of time and covers a wide range of areas.There are writers of wars,writers of the people’s livelihood,writers of the mountains and rivers,write events of history,etc.They are witnesses of the era;From the perspective of literary history,it has a large number of ancient and modern style poems,totaling 1578.The poems are full of allusions and rhetoric,which greatlyenriches Wu Congheng’s personal research materials and has positive significance for the study of modern literature.
