Learning motivation is to stimulate students learning behavior and working towards the established goals.Only when we have a motivation,will we have a learning behavior.Therefore,the role of motivation in learning activities is very important.In recent years,more and more scholars have begun to focus on students? motivation problems,and conducted in-depth investigations.At present,many researches on learning motivation generally concentrate on the question “why there is motivation”,but very few on “Why no motivation”,namely demotivation of the problem studied.English teachers should pay more attention to students demotivation.However,the reality is that there are a lot of students have no motivation on the English learning,especially in rural middle schools.The thesis is aimed at finding out the demotivation factors in rural high school students English learning,so that teachers can grasp the obstacles and difficulties faced by students in English learning,and helping teachers to explore strategies to stimulate foreign language learning motivation,to improve students? motivation to learn a foreign language.This achievement will play a catalytic role in improving the quality of English teaching in rural middle schools.For this purpose,the author chose 247 students of grade one in the Tianshui Eighth Middle School as the research object,using empirical research,got 238 valid questionnaires to survey and research reasons for the general factors in rural high school students English learning and solutions,to improve their English academic performance.There are three research questions of this study:(1)What are the major factors that influence the students? demotivaiton in English learning in rural high school?(2)Do the three teaching strategies adopted by the teacher in the test have an impact on the students? demotivaiton in English learning?(3)Do the three teaching strategies adopted by the teacher in the test have a positive impact on the students? English achievement?In this thesis,according to the general phenomenon of English learning demotivation in rural high school students,the author surveyed grade one students of Tianshui Eighth Middle School to investigate the impact factors of the English learning demotivation.Through statistical analysis of survey results,it?s found that the teachers? teaching methods and students? confidence in learning English are the primary factors affecting the demotivation of English learning,followed by English teachers? encouragement and students? confidence,the social environment is also an important factor.In response to these factors,the author used three mainly teaching strategies for the two surveyed classes and had a comparative test.The three teaching strategies are: Stimulating students? learning interest,helping students to develop an appropriate target and encouraging students to form good study habits in English study.These teaching strategies were used in the experimental group while the original teaching methods in controlled group.Participants are from two classes in grade one of Tianshui Eighth Middle School,including 123 students.The experimental group has 61 students,including 27 boys and 34 girls and the controlled group has 62 students,including 28 boys and 34 girls.Through a semester?s experiment,with the same questionnaire,the author did the survey with the same experimental group and controlled group separately.The results of tests and survey analysis showed that these strategies effectively stimulated the students? motivation to learn English and can help the rural high school students to develop good habits in English learning gradually and these strategies provide planning,monitoring and evaluating for the learning process.At the same time,the purpose of improving students? English achievement was reached.Based on the findings,in this thesis,the author put forward some strategies to develop students? English learning motivation and English achievement.Meanwhile some limitations and suggestions for further study are also pointed out.
