Abstract/Summary:
Since the time of Meiji Restoration,the policy of Japan to China was not single one,which were consists of three parts: military invasion,economical aggression and cultural invasion.Among the cultural invasion,there were three main ways,Opening school,Establishing news agencies and Publishing newspapers.They were also known as three sharp weapons.Among them,the newspapers received much attention from Japanese government and Japanese zaibatsu.Not only for it’s timeliness,but also because of it’s cheap,portable and it had wide readers.According to statistics,the first Japanese newspaper was Shang Hai Business which was published in 1882.From 1882 to 1939,Japanese had established 141 kinds of newspapers in China.Among these newspapers,the most representative was the Shuntian Times which was set up by Nakajimn Mayo,he was the member of the East Asian Common Culture Association.As the first Japanese Chinese newspaper set up in Beijing,it had attracted many readers for their special speech on social affairs,distinct position.The Shuntian Times made great impact on the public opinion and society.Especially during the period of restoration of monarchy,as the domestic newspapers had been forbidden by government,there was no newspaper could make any opposite comment on the restoration of monarchy.To coordinate with the strategy of aggression against China,the Shuntian Times made an intense concern about Chinese situation,made many comments on the dictatorship of Yuan Shih-ai,the change of the state and regime,political dynamics and so on.The newspaper guided the direction of public opinion,and made important influence on the political situation,it played a significant role in the failure of restoration of monarchy.So I want to make the Shuntian Times as the representative of the Japanese Chinese newspaper in China,to directly recognize the newspaper how to report the sensitive issues of Yuan Shih-kai by study,so that we can make a deep understanding of the Japanese attitudes to Yuan Shih-kai,and the evolution of Japanese polices to China.Through the study,we can enrich the studies of the Shuntian Times,we can also make a supplement study on Yuan Shih-kai,to give a reference for the researchers.At the same time,we can observe the long and winding road to Chinese modernization.Full text is divided into four parts: the first part is to introduce the situation of Japanese Chinese newspapers in late Qing dynasty and the early Republic of China.And it talks about the close relation between the Shuntian Times and Yuan Shih-Kai,the newspaper supported Yuan Shih-kai in late Qing dynasty.The second part discusses the attitudes of Shuntian Times towards Yuan Shih-kai after the Second Revolution,including the criticisms on the dictatorship and worship on Confucianism,legalization on old morals,especially during the Twenty-one Demands,the newspaper increased pressure on Yuan Shih-kai.The third part discusses the political attitude of Shuntian Times toward Yuan Shih-kai during the period of restoration of monarchy.At the end of part,it points out that Shuntian Times promoted the social transform of China indirectly,it supported the political reform of Qing dynasty,and criticized on dictatorship of Yuan Shih-kai,especially the newspaper objected to the restoration of monarchy,which was accordance with the Chinese people’s demands.But essentially,the Shuntian Times is a Japanese newspaper,it followed the Japanese government,to be an official propaganda mouthpiece,and cheered for Japanese invasion to China.
