Interpreter is the link between the SL speaker and the TL receiver.Naturally,long-term memory is the hub of connecting the source language and the target language. Therefore,a good long-term memory is a prerequisite for interpreters to develop their interpreting skills.Long-term memory is the subject of this paper. In the stage of interpreting,it takes interpreters a good long-term memory to encode and store SL information, while interpreters are unable to extract stored information and decode it to the TL without a fine memory.According to Gile's Effort Model,long-term memory is an essential part of interpreting. The process of interpreting contains encoding, storing, extracting and decoding information.Generally,it begins with a general situation of interpreting, and it expounds the position and influence of long-term memory in interpreting from the perspective of Gile's Effort Model.Secondly,it analyzes the factors that affect the quality of memory in interpreting combining with the corpus of President Xi's speech on the 20 th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to Motherland from two aspects: the characteristics of long-term memory and the working environment of interpreting. Finally,it comprises the tactics of improving long-term memory in interpreting, which are applied to actual interpreting. The core of this paper is to combine Gile's Effort Model with the long-term memory of interpreting in the corpus, and to explore the tactics to improve the long-term memory competence in SI.
