The aim of this translation practice report is to study the Chinese-English translation of the tea book Introduction to Tea Culture.The excerpt in this report is chosen from chapter 6which contains about 20,000 Chinese characters.Introduction to Tea Culture is mainly compiled by Prof.Chen Wenhua,an agricultural archaeologist,and published in July,2013.This text book aims to introduce Chinese tea culture to the whole world.It introduces the basic knowledge about tea culture,brief history,utensils for drinking tea,art of tasting tea,knowledge about tasting tea,tea house,tea party,tea banquet,customs of drinking tea,tea culture's introduction to the world,ancient tea books,etc.systematically.Chapter Six discusses the brief history of Teaism,the relationship between Teaism,Confucianism,Buddhism and Daoism,Teaism with people's thoughts and Teaism's aesthetic features thoroughly.Among them,the relationship between Teaism,Confucianism,Buddhism and Daoism is the focus.When people discuss Chinese Teaism,they will discuss Teaism's relationship with Confucianism,Buddhism and Daoism from different angles.With the help of various resources,in light of Hans J.Vermeer's Skopos theory,the translator has developed a keen understanding of tea culture and its close relationship with Confucianism,Buddhism and Daoism before putting the related information into English.Four parts are included in this translation practice report.The translation practice's general introduction is given in the first part,for instance,the background information,the author and content of this translation practice text,purposes and process of this translation practice and the structure of this translation practice report.The second part is literature review.This part initially introduces some books and related translations on tea from China and oversea countries.Then the brief introduction of Skopos theory is given,such as its formation and development,three rules,significance and application in China.The third part is the case study.Specific examples are given to illustrate the application of the three rules in Skopos theory in lexical level,syntactic level and textual level separately.The fourth part is the conclusion.Based on the translation practice,the translator concludes that this Chinese-English translation should pay enough attention to the application of the Skopos theory concerning the text which aims to spread Chinese tea culture to the world.This translation practice report discusses the specific application of the three rules in Skopostheory from lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.The guidance of the three rules can be shown through detailed examples in this practice report.
