A Study On Hollywood's Young Adult Dystopian Films

The release of The Hunger Games in 2012,immediately drew positive feedback from the market.After that,a series of films,such as Divergent,Maze Runner,and The Giver appeared in the public view one after another,in which have obvious similarities in plot and character setting.Since then,Hollywood has set off a dystopian film boom featuring young adults.This thesis focuses on the discussion and research of dystopian films produced by Hollywood with young adults as the main character,expects to discover the root of this phenomenon.The thesis is divided into introduction and three chapters.The part of introduction will make necessary preparations for the study,explain the origin and background of the research,and briefly introduce the object and purpose of the study,and summarize the relevant research status at home and abroad.The first chapter mainly defines utopia and dystopia by introducing the development and citing examples of the theories.Besides,overviews the history of dystopian movies,on this basis,defines the object of the study.The second chapter will discuss and analyze the narrative structure of Hollywood's young adult dystopian films with the methods of genre films.In the third chapter,proceeding from the exterior to the interior,to expand the discussion of Hollywood's young adult dystopian films in cultural studies and commercial operation.
