The remake is a super tradition of film production in Hollywood, which has achieved rapid development in recent years. The number of remakes still trending upward, and the representational modes have been plural. With the widespread practices, film remakes spread fast in filmdom worldwide and moved into the main stream. Facing with the phenomenon of remake fever, it is necessary to review the history of remake, analyze its process of development, and expose the influence and significance on film industry. Being the greatest classic film in Hollywood, 'King Kong' (1933) was remade twice (1976 and 2005). It is introduced as a case in this article for specific discussion and analysis. Depending on the knowledge of filmology and film theory and the comparison of 'King Kong' and its remakes, the author seeks to explore the causes of film remakes, illustrate remakes' variations in aesthetics, and its interconnection with culture and U.S. social problems. Moreover, the implied impact of developed film techniques on remakes and interrelation with cinematography are involved. The view that remakes can be regarded as complete genre is emphasized during the analysis.
