The Study On Poetry Translation And Translator's Subjectivity From The Perspective Of Manipulation Theory

Mr.Bian Zhilin has made great achievements in the field of poetry translation.He translated foreign poems,self-translated poems,and put forward many valuable translation theories.For a long period of time,there exist more researches on his poems than those on his poetry translation.Researchers pay more attention to analyze the equivalence between the translated poem and the original version,or whether the self-translation follows his own translation principles regardless of the description of the social background and cultural atmosphere in which the poetry translator is located,and the manipulation of poetics and ideology of the target culture in the translation process,thus ignoring the external factors that influence the translator's translation activities.The author attempts to use the manipulation theory combined with “creative treason" to explore the subjective initiative and objective passivity of translator's subjectivity in the process of poetry translation.The research method used in this paper is descriptive research.From the perspective of manipulation theory,taking the translator's subjectivity as the starting point,the author studies the subjective initiative reflected in the series of processes of poetry translation,including the choice of source texts,translation strategies,and expression methods.Meanwhile,the author also uses this perspective to view the objective passivity reflected under social and historical context,cultural background and the manipulation of poetic norms as well as target readers.The author intends to propose some suggestions and enlightening thoughts for the successors of literary translation through analyzing the display of translator's subjectivity in the process of Bian Zhilin' translation and introduction of foreign poems,self-translating poems,and putting forward to valuable poetic translation theories about rhythm and rhyme,thus making a little contribution to realize the introduction of Chinese literature to the Western dominated culture.Taking Bian Zhilin's poetry translation as a case study,the author attempts to comprehensively analyze Bian Zhilin's translator's subjectivity based on foreign poetry translation,poetry self-translation through the combination of manipulation theory with creative treason,therefore,the thesis has theoretical innovation significance.Based on the actual concern of Chinese culture going abroad,taking Bian Zhilin's poetry translation and introduction as an example,the author examines the constraints of objective passivity and subjective initiative involved in translator's subjectivity,and draws a series of inspirations so as to provide some feasible suggestions for subsequent translation and introduction of Chinese literature.So the thesis also has certain practical significance for the promotion of communication between Chinese and foreign literature.
