As an important factor of second language acquisition,the mother tongue has been one of the hottest topics for international and domestic research.Because of the differences between the mother tongue(Chinese)and the second language(English),the influence in the process of second language acquisition is called the phenomenon of negative transfer of mother tongue.As we all know,writing ability is an important part of second language acquisition.However,junior middle school students in China start to learn English only after they have mastered the mother tongue,therefore,their writing process is inevitably affected by the negative transfer of mother tongue.This research took Grade two students who were from five classes at Daqiao Foreign Language School in Changchun city as objects and analyzed the negative transfer of mother tongue on writing ability of middle school students through students' composition samples,questionnaires and interview.The findings showed that the negative transfer of mother tongue mainly affected junior middle school students' writing process in these aspects,that is,vocabulary,syntax,discourse and culture.And this phenomenon is a serious impediment to the improvement of students' English writing ability.The thesis takes a series of effective measures based on a series of errors of studies' compositions so that it can improve the English writing ability of middle school students.
