Summary writing is receiving more and more attention to its features and teaching since it was selected to be one of the items in the National College Entrance Examination(NECE)since 2016.In order to improve senior high students' summary writing,a new language teaching activity called “dictogloss” is introduced to improve the effectiveness and arouse students' interests.Although the effectiveness of dictogloss has been proved in listening for senior high school students by some scholars,it is rarely used for teaching summary writing.Therefore,the theoretical basis is elaborated to see the previous researches and practices both on dictogloss and summary writing.As a result,dictogloss can be applied in summary writing teaching for its features and the connection with summary writing which also paves the way for the following experiment.Three research questions are put forward and investigated in Hangzhou D High School,with 96 senior 2 students participation in the three-month experiment.Here are the three research questions:1.Will dictogloss improve senior high school students' performance on summary writing? If yes,to what extent?2.In what aspect or aspects will students' performance on summary writing be improved by dictogloss?3.What are the students' and teachers' attitudes on its application in summary writing classes?After carefully analyzing the statistics in the pre-and post-test,conclusions can be made that dictogloss can improve senior high school students' summary writing more effectively compared with the traditional method,and the improvements of four aspects(content,form,coherence,creativity)are all proved to be better.Finally,most of the students hold positive attitudes towards it and hope for further application,which shows that most of the students are interested in dictogloss and it will surely improve the teaching efficiency.Some pedagogical implications are also made from the interviews of six experienced teachers,students in questionnaires and the author.Although there are limitations in the study,the author still expect more attention and further application.
