Without effective vocabulary learning methods and strategies,it is difficult for learners to master enough vocabulary,and language communication is even more difficult to proceed.Therefore,it is very important to guide students to master vocabulary learning strategies in language teaching.For a long time,senior high school students' English vocabulary learning mainly relies on reciting words in the vocabulary list.Very often they don't know the specific usage of words and the differences in usages in different situations.In the long run,students' vocabulary memorization is overburdened and students will lose interest in English learning.Summary writing is a way for students to abbreviate the passage with their own words after reading it,which helps students use words in a certain context,thus deepening their understanding and reviewing of words.As a result,the purpose of improving students' vocabulary learning ability can be achieved.This research tries to answer the following two questions:(1)In what aspects does summary writing have an impact on senior high school students' English vocabulary learning?(2)How to use summary writing to improve the effectiveness of senior high school students' English vocabulary learning?This research was conducted with the support of comprehensible input and output theory and constructivism theory.Two parallel classes were selected as the research subjects from Grade one of a Senior High School in Jinan,Shandong Province.The number of students in these two classes and their academic performance were basically of the same level.The experiment lasted for three months.The author used questionnaires,tests,and interviews to conduct the research and collect data.The research process was divided into three phases.The first phase was data collection before the experiment,the second phase was the experimental process,and the third phase was data collection and analysis after the experiment.After the experiment,the data were summarized and analyzed.The results proved theeffectiveness of summary writing on English vocabulary learning ability of senior high school students.After data analysis and discussion,this research achieved findings that summary writing should be enhanced in senior high school English vocabulary learning.It can improve students' English ability in their understanding and usage of the vocabulary.In view of this,teachers should train students to do summary writing exercises in stages during the process of vocabulary teaching.In the fifth chapter,this study proposed specific suggestions for teachers on how to use summary writing to improve the vocabulary learning of senior high school students.
